Light in the Deep
Light in the Deep
This grew over a number of years paining out my brushes. I was enjoying the play of transparent and opaque paints, particularly the flash of cerulean blue up and down the centre. It took me years to see into it, not just to see the colours. There was a light. Rather than the light wanting to be seen for itself and to be taken out of the dark, it seemed to want to dwell in the dark, to be part of it in a familiar and organic way, to be in the depth of the dark.
The light in this Deep could be anything. Sometimes I see window panes with a glow of flame from a cottage. Sometimes I see spaces between trees with hanging vines, tempting me out of the dark. Mostly, I see light which has the peace and presence to dwell easily in the dark of whatever kind it is. In the darkness of our world and nations at these times, it is good to see Light which wants to live inside darkness. To me, that is a hopeful thing.
